📞 (905) 261-9082Trim carpentry and finishing work covers everything that gives a renovation its polished, complete look. This includes interior door installation and hanging, casing and architrave around door and window openings, baseboard installation, crown moulding, chair rail, and any other finish carpentry that ties a space together. This work is often the last stage of a renovation — and it is where the quality of the craftsmanship is most visible.
Trim work is what separates a renovation that looks complete from one that looks unfinished. Gaps at the base of walls, poorly fitted door casings, or mismatched trim profiles are noticed immediately — even by people who cannot identify exactly what is wrong. Quality trim installation requires precise cuts, consistent reveals, and tight joints. When it is done well, it disappears into the background and the space simply feels right.
Interior doors are commonly replaced when they no longer close or latch properly due to settling or warping, when a renovation changes the layout and requires new openings, when upgrading from hollow-core to solid-core doors for sound reduction, or when the existing doors are simply dated and the homeowner wants a consistent, updated look throughout the home.
Renovations almost always leave areas where drywall has been cut, patched, or damaged. Trim work often involves filling and finishing these areas before casing or baseboard goes in. Getting the drywall finish right at this stage means the painted surfaces look clean and even rather than showing every patch and repair.
We walk through the space with you, identify every element that needs to be addressed, and provide a clear written quote. Trim work is often scoped as part of a larger renovation, but we also take on standalone finishing projects.
Any patching, skim coating, or drywall repairs happen before trim installation so the walls are in proper condition when the finish carpentry begins.
Doors are installed and adjusted for proper swing and latch. Trim is cut to fit, nailed, and set. Joints are filled and the work is left ready for paint. We clean up on completion and do a final walkthrough with you.
Hollow-core doors have a lightweight cardboard or honeycomb interior and are common in standard residential construction. They are less expensive but provide minimal sound reduction. Solid-core doors have a denser interior, feel substantially heavier, and provide noticeably better sound control between rooms. Many homeowners upgrade to solid-core when renovating, particularly for bedrooms and home offices.
New trim can be installed and painted independently from the wall colour. If the existing wall paint is in good condition, the new trim is typically painted separately and the touch-up at the wall junction is minimal. We let you know during the quoting process if we see conditions that would make a full repaint advisable.
Doors that fail to close properly are usually caused by settling in the frame, humidity-related swelling, or hinge issues. Depending on the cause, the fix may involve adjusting or replacing hinges, planing the door edge, or in some cases installing a new door and frame if the opening itself has shifted. We assess the specific cause and recommend the right approach.
